UK Tourism Data

MDS Transmodal is one of the agents allowed by the Office of National Statistics to process and market travel and tourism data from the International Passenger Survey (IPS).

The IPS is a permanent ongoing survey recording information, on a monthly basis, about travellers from the UK and travellers to the UK. It provides not only basic information on numbers of travellers, origin and destination, purpose of journey and travel mode (ferry/rail/airline and types of vehicle), but also more detailed data on expenditure, age, port of entry etc.

Available quarterly, it is an invaluable source for any company involved in the UK travel market including airlines, airports, ferry operators, tour operators and any company involved in UK-international travel.

We have consolidated IPS data since 1992 with operator (ferry and airline services) data to produce an internally consistent database which describes passenger volumes by:

  • mode
  • service
  • year and quarter (1992 onwards)
  • residence
  • journey purpose
  • origin and destination
  • length of stay

The database provides a means of producing time series of UK international passenger demand and a reliable means of producing of forecasts on a sector by sector basis.
