People

The most important resource of a consultancy is its team.  MDS Transmodal employs consultants with a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise, all of whom have excellent qualifications and or considerable experience and expertise.

Profiles are available in the Capability Statements.

Added to the people necessary to undertake the consultancy is access to appropriate, timely and accurate information.  It has always been an underpinning philosophy for MDS Transmodal to design, compile and maintain its own in house information resources and even to create software tools where efficient and appropriate.

Industry Data

We believe good data are the basis for good consultancy.  For this reason, we have developed and continue to maintain various databases which we use in our consultancy work and to provide information to our clients.

The principal databases we maintain are:

  • Container and RoRo Shipping Supply Data.  The Containership Databank - was first produced in 1985 and since then has become an invaluable tool for the analysis of the service deployment of containerships worldwide.  It covers every lolo and roro vessel afloat above 100 TEU in capacity and is continually updated.

  • Trade Data and Forecasts.  Initially developed in 1987, the World Cargo Database contains detailed trade flow data between every country in the world at a detailed commodity level (over 3000 commodity classifications).  Enhanced with trade forecasts to 2020 and special outputs for the container industry in TEU, analysis derived from this database can add value to any company involved in global trade.  We currently produce quarterly trade forecasts for Containerisation International Magazine for all major trade corridors.

  • International Passenger Data (UK).  Since 1992, with the permission of the UK Office of National Statistics, we process and market travel and tourism data from the International Passenger Survey (IPS).  This database provides detailed information on UK passenger movements and is an invaluable resource for any company involved in the UK travel market.

In addition to the above we also compile various other information sets.
