Rail
Achieving success in the rail industry requires a thorough understanding of the market and we provide this expertise to a range of public and private sector clients. The many projects we have carried out in the rail sector have led, through terminal and warehousing requirements, to involvement in wider logistics issues. We advise:
- Government - on the likely future development of rail freight.
- Regional and Local Authorities - on rail freight in their region.
- Rail industry operators - variously on such matters as public policy, grant aid, forecast future levels of activity etc.
- Distribution Companies - on how to make better use of multi-modal transport.
- Manufacturers - on creating intermodal logistics networks
- Developers - on the creation of road to rail terminals in the UK and Europe.
A particularly important area of our work is in preparing the case for gaining planning consent for new rail linked regional logistics sites.
The realisation, by both Government and business, that more emphasis should be placed on sustainable logistics solutions has recently produced a substantial interest in the rail industry. In the UK, the Rail White Paper of July 2007 - Delivering a Sustainable Railway - contains our rail freight forecasts. Regional planning guidance in several regions specified policies to concentrate major freight generating developments on rail and intermodal sites. In this respect, we work closely with Chartered Surveyors and Developers
