FREIGHTWISE:  outputs and outcomes

The key output from the project is the FREIGHTWISE Framework (FWF), which is an innovative but simple information framework architecture that facilitates the electronic management of information required to plan, execute and complete freight transport chains irrespective of the number of organizations involved or the number of transport modes used.  It provides a simple blueprint for the transfer of essential data between organizations to ensure freight transport services are marketed and procured, planned and executed in the most efficient and cost-effective way, without requiring organizations to change their existing internal information systems.

Commercial benefits are immediately available following implementation because the FWF facilitates business process interoperability between different organizations involved in the freight transport chain, but without affecting the integrity of users' existing systems.  Business process integration facilitates the development of the "extended enterprise" in the freight transport chain, with the collective objective of planning, executing and completing cost effective freight transport chains.

The FWF also provides the foundations for the "Internet for Cargo," which is expected in the medium to long term to increase the potential for value comparisons for users of freight transport services and increased market visibility for service providers.

The FWF Business Guidelines will be available on the FREIGHTWISE website at: www.freightwise.info.

On the same website the FWF e-Guide will also be available, which is an interactive web-based tool to provide information of the FWF that is tailored to the needs of strategic decision-makers.
