South Bradford Freight Parking Feasibility Study

South Bradford Freight Parking Feasibility Study

Client: City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council

Date: 2017
Bradford MDC commissioned MDST to produce a study focusing on freight parking in the South Bradford area, with the aim of identifying a series of solutions to tackle associated issues

The question

What are the main issues that arise from road freight vehicles parked in inappropriate locations and how can these be addressed?

The solution

  • Established the key issues in relation to HGV parking in the South Bradford area such as parking on the side of a highway and impeding traffic flow, noise pollution and visual intrusion near residential areas and damage to pavement or footpath infrastructure.
  • Assessed the need for HGV parking and identified both appropriate and inappropriate sites in the South Bradford area. The need was established by using data to map the warehousing and manufacturing locations and consulting with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Identified potential new sites for HGV parking in the South Bradford area based on consultation and analysing local planning documents.
  • Established the cost of developing these potential sites.
  • Recommendations were made about site and facility options, with associated estimated costs.
