The Question

What are the historic trends in the development of the UK’s freight transport system that have led to the current landscape and how might the system develop over the next 10 years given the speed of change in technology and the market place?

The Solution

  • Completed analysis of existing public policy and research
  • Completed data analysis to develop a statistical ‘picture’ of the current position based on official data and outputs from the GB Freight Model and other MDST databases
  • Completed workshop with key stakeholders from the freight transport industry
  • Provided observations on how the freight transport system might develop up to about 2028

Achievements

Results of the research informed the Government Office for Science’s Future of Mobility report, which was published in January 2019.
