The Question
What is the potential demand for container port facilities in the North Adriatic Ports by 2030?
The Solution
MDST carried out a study which involved:
- An update of data inputs to the European Container Port Demand Model for a 2012 base year;
- Analysis of potential impact of the P3 alliance and container shipping industry consolidation;
- Visits to four ports to discuss issues with port users;
- Analysis of the economics of container feeder services between the North Adriatic ports;
- Development of scenarios that were analysed using the MDST European Container Port Demand Model.
Outcome
A report provided advice on conditions for securing 5.9 MTEU of traffic by 2030. Results were presented at the European Parliament in Brussels and at national conferences in Rome and Ljubljana.
